Weekend Box Office Roundup

Weekend Box Office Roundup

1) Avatar $30.0M

The weekend proved to be strong for James Cameron’s Epic adventure yet again. With its seventh week at number one, Avatar reached the $2 billion mark worldwide. Domestically, the film has made $594.5M and is getting closer and closer to breaking Titanic’s 12 year hold on the highest domestic total, $600.8M. Again, there was not one movie even close to the number one spot, which brings us to number two.

2) Edge of Darkness $17.1M

Mel Gibson’s return to the silver screen was not that impressive. His film barely went over the $17 million mark. With reviews for the film split down the middle, it doesn’t look like Edge of Darkness will do any better in the coming weeks either. Next week, Gibson’s film will have to go up against a Nick Sparks Novel, and a bad ass John Travolta. In other words, this will probably be the films peak.

3) When in Rome $12.1M

The lovely Kristen Bell’s film took the number 3 spot, but based on the buzz around the film, I suspect there is nowhere to go but down. Kristen Bell is a fan boy favorite, but you couldn’t even talk me into going to see this film…. unless my fiancee makes me. With that, I have nothing else to say about this.

4) The Tooth Fairy $10.0M

This film remains in the top five only because there is no other family fair to contend with. When Dwayne Johnson first entered into film, I thought he was pretty good. I am starting to second guess myself with his choices in movies. A couple more movies like this will lead me to believe that his career as a respectable actor will be over. That is if he was even respected in the first place.

5) The Book of Eli $8.8M

Denzel Washington’s film is still holding its own. But really, what person doesn’t love watching Denzel? No one, thats who. I love you Denzel, you do your thing.

Well, thats it for this weekend’s box office roundup. Did anyone notice that Legion vanished from the top 5. I guess word of mouth really works. Will Avatar be toppled by Nick Sparks novel to film Dear john, starring heartthrob Channing Tatum next week? I doubt it, but only time will tell. Check out next weeks weekend box office roundup to find out.
