Who is the biggest movie star in the world? No, it’s not Tom Cruise. No, it’s not Brad Pitt. No, it’s not Will Smith. It is Shahrukh Khan. Let me guess, you have never heard of Shahrukh Khan. That is because he is a Bollywood actor. To put it simply, he is the Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, or Will Smith across the ocean. Shahrukh Khan’s audience is the largest in the world. If you asked every single person in the world to name an actor, Shahrukh Khan would be mentioned more than anyone else. He is known all throughout Asia, the Middle East, and up into Europe.
So why am I writing about this? Well, Fox Searchlight has bought the rights to Khan’s latest film, My Name is Khan, for release in the United States. This means that many Americans will probably be introduced to the man known as “King Khan.” A whole new fan base may be opened up to the actor because of this. For me this is cause for excitement.
